Series I Don’t Plan on Finishing!

Hey Beautiful Booklovers! Sorry I have been rather absent over the weekend, I’ve come down with the cold, and was feeling pretty sorry for myself lol. I promise to catch up this week! Anyway, today’s post is about all the series that I don’t plan to finish – this is of course subjective, I may be inclined to change my mind in the future, though at the moment that doesn’t seem likely.

Without further ado, let’s get to it!

1 – The Darkest Minds Triology by Alexandra Bracken

Okay, before you start attacking me, or hunting me down, I liked this book – I really did, and at the time I read it I thought I might continue. But…and there is a but, I just feel there are so many other books I want to read, and continuing with this series really isn’t a big deal for me. Not knowing what happens next is not something I will stay awake at night over. Sorry booklovers!

2 –  Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

I could not tell you how much I did not like this book! Honestly I was so unbelievably disappointed by it, and really struggled to finish it. I will not even entertain the notion of picking this series back up. No way! I know a lot of people like this series but it is 110% not for me, and I don’t even care if ‘it gets better’ I’m not reading it.

3 – Furyborn (Empirium Series) by Claire Legrand

I’m not going to talk about why I didn’t like this book. I already did that in my post Books that had me saying “WTF” – you can read that here.

This book did not work for me, and I absolutely have no intention of continuing with the series. I know this is another book people love, but it just didn’t do it for me. Sorry, not sorry.

4 – Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

Perhaps I should have called this post unpopular opinions instead, because clearly this will have people throwing stones too, but I did not enjoy this book. I found it all too cliche, and predictable, and honestly can’t say I have any desire to pick up Lady Smoke. Again, I know a lot of people in the community really loved this book, but for now I don’t think I will go back to it. That’s not a never, just not now.

5 – Everless by Sara Holland

This is another book I spoke about in my Books that had me saying “WTF”, so I won’t get into it, but I will say I really struggled to read this. Honestly I disliked it so much, and I know the second book is out, and no I don’t care, nor I am not planning to continue the story.

6 – The Fallen Series by Lauren Kate

I got onto book 3 in this series (pretty impressive huh) before I could no longer continue. It was so interesting to begin with, but man oh man is that main character a pain in my ass! I cannot stand her, and her terrible lack of common sense irritated me to no end! It was like hello plot twist I can see you a mile away why can’t our main girl! So frustrating, and so I had to put it down. I have no regrets there at all. None! I just can’t deal with main characters who make unbelievably annoying decisions because they think they know best…kills me!

7 – A discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

ARGHH! This book! I really can’t even talk about it! Nothing really happens, apart from some controlling vampire pining after a witch, who is lusting after him, but they don’t have sex because why? Well he isn’t that sort of vampire lololololol! I can’t deal with this book! It had such promise, but I’m just not a fan when everything fixes on a instalove romance. That’s exactly what happened. It’s cringy, and I cannot stress enough that I will not pick it up again…like at all!

8 – Talon by Julie Kagawa

Talon (The Talon Saga, Book 1) by [Kagawa, Julie]

So, I’ve been asking myself why I read this, and then I remember…uh Dragons Steff…obvs! I love me some dragons, like I’m dragon mad, and so I really wanted to read more dragon books, and someone on Instagram recommended this. I was not in love with this story, it wasn’t terrible by any means, just not to my liking, but I really have no intention of continuing on with it. I could 100% feel a love triangle coming on and that is even higher on my dislike list than instalove! I hate love traingles, so for that reason I don’t think I could continue on with it. (Perhaps I need to do a post about tropes I hate/ love? lol).

9 – The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

So, I read the first book of this series, but was a little underwhelmed by it. Perhaps I fell victim to the hype, I’m not sure, but either way I just have no desire at all to continue with it. So many people in the community sing its’ praise but honestly from the first book I can’t really see why. This is one, that I may pick up another day, but if I’m honest that doesn’t seem likely.

10 – Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Put the pitchforks down, I’m not a monster okay? I did like this, just not enough to care overly about what happens next. Which obviously means I don’t intend to continue, but I did enjoy this book – just not enough! This is another one where I think perhaps I may want to continue in the future, but for now it’s not got enough pull to lure me back!

There you have it! My list of series that I don’t intend to finish, how many of you want to scream at me? In all honesty there are some that maybe one day I’ll feel inclined to revisit, but for now it’s just not on the cards. Please don’t take offense if any of these books are your favourite series etc,. This is just my opinion (unpopular as it might be), and I really have no issue with anyone who loved these books they just didn’t suit me.

Are any of these your favourites? Have you yourself given up on any of these? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. It seems every book must be a part of a series these days and unless book 1 really grabs me I won’t invest further so I fully understand you! Too many authors try to sell the next in a series without really making the first book a priority. Stories need to stand alone first and foremost

    1. The thing is I love a good series to binge on, but I really need to feel invested in the characters and plot to want to carry on. With the above books I just wasn’t invested, and to me there are too many other books or series that I would rather read 😂+

  2. I’ve heard a lot of ‘meh’ stuff about Furyborn, and as somebody who did read the entire Fallen trilogy I can honestly say that you are not missing out in the slightest. It’s such an investment to read a series, so if it’s not gripping you then it’s just sensible to stop! 🙂

  3. Oh man, you have balls of steel for posting this, girl haha. I support your decisions 100%! Honestly, I finished The Darkest Minds because I felt like I should, but it didn’t “wow” me or blow me away. I just…read it. And I couldn’t get through Ash Princess because the pacing was so slow. Finally, Daughter of Smoke & Bone. I liked the first two books, but I couldn’t get into the third one, so I just decided to look up the synopsis and…WTF?!?!?! It would have been SO dissatisfying to read, holy cow. So you dodged a bullet with that one, IMO

Looking forward to your next post! 😀

  4. I just ordered The raven boys, like 30 minutes ago hahahha… Oh my, I hope I will like it at least a bit. I waited for it to be translated into my own language as the hype reached Romania too and I though that well, if it’s that good, I will want to have it in my library in romanian.
